Journey to Langkawi island (April 2025)

Tokay gecko (Gekko gecko)

Meeting the giant tokay gecko (Gekko gecko) again at Langkawi island. This one is in between 30 to 40cm long!!!

At first, we thought this super rare Nepenthes ridzaiana (previously it was called N. kerrii) is either disappeared or gone cos we couldn't find it. Later we found out the raining season in this area is just started and the pitcher is so small/not yet opened (old one was dried out in last dry season) and not easy to spot it in the thick bushes near the cliff.

This is the location for Begonia sinuata and Begonia sibthorpioides (smallest Begonia in Peninsular Malaysia). However, due to the raining season is just started in Langkawi, only B. sinuata emerging from the ground from dormant stage (dropped off leaf in dry season). The other B. sibthorpioides still "sleeping". Need more heavy rainfalls to "wake it up". 😅

Field trip April 12th, 2025 Western Sarawak

Exploring a mini waterfall that I never been there before.

Selunsur tree (Tristaniopsis oborata) from western Sarawak. It will "peel off" the outer layer of tree bark from time to time and exposed the reddish inner bark.

First time found Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) in the kerangas forest of Sarawak. It is a famous traditional herb in our region.
